Brenda K. Starr is one of the new voices of Salsa and has been able to establish herself in this market, after having great success singing in English. Brenda, a half Puerto Rican and half Jewish, New York native, had dreamed of being an artist since she was a little girl.

At the age of 9, she participated in many events in her school. At age 12, she recorded a demo with various songs, which she performed during those days. At age 14, she signed her first record contract, and thus became a professional singer.

She started off singing in English. Soon, she received numerous awards. Among them, the "New York Award" for being the best female artist and for having the best R&B single, her song "I Still Believe." She was also awarded at the National Dance Music Awards for "Best Single of the Year" with her song "What You See Is What You Get."

Brenda has also succeeded in Romania, where she was awarded for being the "Best Artist" and "Best Vocalist". Later on, during the Queens Music Awards, she received an award for "Best Interpretation".

The decision to sing is Spanish was a result of pure coincidence. She was singing at the Midem Convention in France, where she met Jose Armada Jr., who proposed the possibility of singing in Spanish to Brenda. She was a little hesitant at first, since she is not fluent in Spanish, but in the end this was not an obstacle for Brenda to succeed.

Her first recording under Parcha Records, was the song "Te Sigo Esperando," which took Brenda to the top of the popularity charts. In 1997, she received the "Salsa Artist of the Year" award at the Nuestra Musica Awards. She also received the "Best New Artist" Award at the Estrella de Puerto Rico Awards and the "Best Salsa Female Artist" from the Magazine "Radio Y Musica".

Her first recording "Te Sigo Esperando" reached Platinum status in the US and Puerto Rico. This has consolidated Brenda as one of the best new Salsa artists. Her performances in all American and Europe have had such an impact that Brenda has been considered one of the best Salsa interpreters of all time.

Currently, Brenda is preparing to release her second album under Parcha records, the album "No lo voy a olvidar", an album which includes 8 tracks full of great lyrics, good quality production, and also full of emotion which Brenda provides with her vocals. With all this in mind, Brenda's new album promises to have a great impact in the Salsa community.

As to date, Brenda has released her follow-up Salsa album, "NO LO VOY A OLVIDAR," which contains an awesome remake of her hit, "I Still Believe" that is surely worth checking out!
Brenda K. Starr can also be found singing with the Legends of Style (featuring George LaMond, Coro, Cynthia, and Judy Torres to name a few) in their song, "We Are The Ones." And for those who fear that Brenda has left the English dance music market behind, well fear not.  Through Endorfun Records, Brenda has released an English dance track entitled "Hold Me" which features a very awesome trance mix.  So far the single has gotten very many positive reviews!
