| Prevention of drug abuse comes from being educated about it. I think all kids from the age of 12 through 18, should be required to attend mandatory drug, alcohol, and sex education class, once a year, until they graduate from high school. Have them tour emergency rooms, to see the damage drunk driving does to people's lives. Have them tour juvenile halls, to see what crime can result in. Have them talk to addicts, and see the waste of human life. Show them the pictures of addict's arms with collapsed veins. Educate them about how easy it is transmit disease by sharing needles, even straws to snort with, can transmit Hep "C". Show them what AIDS can do to the human body, and educate them in how easily transmitted AIDS is. Ignorance of the facts is why many kids use, share needles, shares straws, drink and drive, etc. Show them the repulsive wasted humans that would sell their kids to obtain a fix. It would work. This is attacking the demand side of drug & alcohol use. It's the best answer we're going to come up with. |

| The D.A.R.E. Program, Nazis, and The Third Wave Experiment A high school teacher in California was having trouble convincing his students how easily Hitler and his National Socialist party rose to power in pre-WWII Germany. So he came up with a motivational program he called The Third Wave. He didnt tell his students that the program was based on Nazi Youth principles. For the next few days he drilled the students on the proper ways to sit at their desks, read their books, and answer questions. He also had them chant inspirational slogans such as Strength through Discipline, Strength through Community, and Strength through Action. As the experiment progressed, he gave the program a salute, an upraised hand curved in the shape of a wave. Membership cards were issued, and some of the students were appointed monitors. It was their job to tell them which students did not support the program. But the experiment spun out of control. Some students physically anyone who questioned it. Many of the students began ratting on each other, telling which of the students were breaking school rules, smoking, drinking, doing drugs, and having sex. Students were becoming like the Gestapo and giving information on each other that could be used in class. The teacher was amazed at how fast the students began acting like young Nazis. At the end of the week, he stopped the experiment. He showed his class a film on the Hitler Youth movement and told them that was the model for The Third Wave. Some of the students cried when they realized how easily they had gone along with it. The students got a taste of what it was like living in Nazi Germany, what it felt like to live in a disciplined social environment. To build a special society environment, pledge allegiance to that society, and to replace reason with rules. Our D.A.R.E. program encourages students to not only rat on each other, but their parents, too. Many families have been torn apart because their young children were brainwashed into snitching on their family, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Our children are taught to trust government over their families, to be loyal to government over their families, to pledge allegiance to our government over their family, thereby replacing reason with rules. D.A.R.E. doesnt work. Many politicians know it doesnt work, but continue to support it because it gives the public the impression that their local police and government are doing something about crime. Many Americans think that if the government say so, it must be true. Dont fall into that trap, theyre not right, theyre just in power. Rusty |
