*** Five minutes In heaven Is this all that we get? What a way to go Five minutes In heaven Breathe that scream into me What a sad little joke. --Garrison Starr, Five Minutes ***

I leaned over the sink of my hotel bathroom in Venice, scrubbing the makeup gently from my bruised face. A river of black mascara, insanely blue eyeshadow, and mauve blush swirled down the drain along with my alter-ego, Lana Klinemore. She was giggly, bubbly, and pretty much the braindead opposite of me. I was glad to see her go.

I felt a pair of arms weave their way around my waist and lips press to my neck. "You were great tonight..."

"I can be even better," I let out suggestively, feeling my fingers weave through his hair as I turn around in his arms. "It was fun, being all sneaky with you and pulling it off for once. Exciting."

"Ohh, so you want exciting, do you?" He raised an eyebrow, and then without warning, he swung me into his arms. I squealed softly, startled. He ran me into the main room and set me down on the bed. He laid beside me, his arms finding their way back around me. "You're beautiful."

I blush and snuggle closer to him. "What if my dad comes in?"

He groans as I work my lips across his bare chest. "I don't care. Don't bring him up. He ruins the mood." He finally gets control of himself and flips me on my back. "No distractions this time."

"Promise?" I cock my head to the side. He hauls himself off of me and locks the door.

"Promise."

"Wait," I protest as he dips down to catch my lips. "Is this just tonight? Will we only have these few hours to be together or will I get to hear that you love me every day?"

He muses for a moment, gathering his words. "I can't promise you that we won't have fights or we won't have the threat of being killed. It's a given in our world. But I can promise you that no matter how horrible things get, no matter how far the future seems from today, I will love you." He sets a kiss on my forehead, then my lips. "That's all the reassurance I can give right now."

"Five years or five minutes, I don't care if we never get out as long as we're together. You're all I need to keep going." I kiss him hard, letting my tongue slip lazily into his mouth.

We don't talk anymore.
