THE M-AND-MS INVESTIGATION PAGE

Purpose: An ongoing investigation into the proportions of colours in the 55g M-and-Ms packet. There are six colours: brown, red, green, yellow, orange and blue. My aim is to uncover any instances of bias or favour in the proportions of colours in each packet, and overall. Materials: A number of 55g M-and-Ms packet, and a calculator. Method: 1. Buy packet of M-and-Ms. 2. Open packet. Count and record the number of each colour. 3. Eat M-and-Ms.

Preliminary results: So far brown is by far the favoured colour in the 55g M-and-Ms packet, with almost 30%. An even distribution would be 16.6%. The other colours are fairly even, with the exception of orange and yellow, with just under 12% each. Note: An asterisk (*) next to the number of colours in a packet indicates that the contents were crushed, therefore the results may not be entirely accurate.
