SURGERY

The oldest of the three orthodox methods and the most successful is surgery. Surgery can be lifesaving. Most cancer patients cured today is because of surgery. Having said that there several drawbacks. Surgery is mosteffective on localized tumor. If a cancer spreads to other parts of the body it is far less successful. During surgery, all it takes is one cancer cell to get into the blood stream and the cancer will probably start up again in a different location.

How many times have cancer patients heard the words, "We got it all", only to find a few months later that it is back. Psychologically surgery can be devastating, especially for woman having masectomy's. There is strong evidence that large scale masectomy gives the patient no better chance of survival than more breast conserving surgery.From "The Cancer Industry";

Dr. Bernard Fisher, a surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh, began a study in 1971 of 1,700 patients at 34 medical centers. In 1979 he told reporters there was "
no diference in survivals....between those who underwentradical surgery and those treated more conservatively.

From "World Without Cancer". ;At the University of California-Irvine College ofmedicine, a study conducted between 1984-1990 produced this conclusion: "

"All other factors being equal, there is no difference between BCS (breast conserving surgery)and total masectomy in either disease free or overall survival.There is also the stress factor related to surgery."

Many patients fear surgery more than the cancer itself. Attitude is vitally important in survival.
