| On the NCI's website however, you won't see them talking about any of this. They are actively trying to enroll healthy woman into ongoing Tamoxifen clinical trials. Below is a quote taken directly from NCI's website. "In 1998, tamoxifen was shown to reduce the chance of developing breast cancer by about half in the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (BCPT), a study of over 13,000 premenopausal and postmenopausal women at increased risk of breast cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of tamoxifen to reduce the incidence of breast cancer in women at increased risk of the disease in October 1998." More importantly, there is very little information on the NCI's website about the very dangerous side-effects associated with this drug. Hot flashes, eye damage, blood clots (which can be deadly), increased risk of Liver and Uterine cancer are some of the side-effects. See websites below. The "National Woman's Health Network" is highly criticial of the possible benefits against risks of taking Tamoxifen by healthy woman. As we have seen dozens of times before, a new patentable man-made drug is praised as the next great cancer breakthrough only to find out that it is nothing of the sort. The NCI/FDA lie and mislead people all the time. They are still using the same failed formula today that they have been using for over forty years. Man-made patentable drugs. After the embarrassing Tamoxifen episode, NCI director Samuel Broder resigned in 1995. He took a position at Ivax, Inc, a company producing chemotherapy drugs. His salary is approximately twice what he was earning at the NCI. Another little known fact is that many drugs developed by the NCI, at taxpayer expense, are then handed over to pharmaceutical companies who reap the massive profits. A good example of this is the anticancer drug Taxol which was approved in 1992. The NCI had spent a fortune on clinical trials and developing the drugs' manufacturing process. They then gave exclusive rights to Bristol-Myers Squibb who charge us $4.87 per milligram, twenty times what it costs to make. A very lucrative situation for the pharmaceutical companies. We pick up the R&D tab of tens of millions of $$$'s to bring drugs to market, they pick up the patents and the profits. Your tax dollars at work; LINING THEIR POCKETS! |
