| LOS ANGELES: In a recent review from Billboard magazine, the exies is described as having a "melodic British Invasion signature but there's definitely the influences of its Los Angeles roots, thanks to a massive wall of guitars. (the exies) is the promise of a band ready to break." You may not know the exies yet, but the foursome already has Stone Temple Pilots' guitarist Dean DeLeo as a major fan and part of the reason for their early buzz. DeLeo, along with Sonichrome frontman Chris Karn, convinced their mutual manager Steve Stewart to look after the promising young group, whose name is derived from the Existentialists movement of the 1960s. After heavy-duty showcases attended by rabid A&R execs, the exies were signed to Los Angeles indie label Ultimatum Music and were deserving finalists in MTV's Under The Radar video contest last year. the exies' March 28 debut LP with the single "Baby's Got a New Revelation" is currently blasting at radio. Live, local fans have been drawn to their spirited displays of hook-filled originals as well as incomparable cover tunes (the exies have been known to homogenize Led Zeppelin's "Bring it On Home" with Beastie Boys' "Gratitude," among other unique blends). |
