| The Navajo and Chirachura Apache Windway are very similiar in their legends, sand painting and chants. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Navajo Windway sandpainting above is a black and blue wind. The snake is crossed at the chest of the holy wind being. The maize is also standing one is facing us and the other is away from us. The male side of the corn has two stalk and the female side of the corn has three stalks. Two and three is equal to five. The Snake and Corn people are standing on top of the first blood-dark world. In the beginning there was only Talking Holy Wind. They are guarded by the Snakes. Snake are the common representative of the cosmic being and relationship to the earth. The manifestation of nature is that all things goes in cyclical spiral. There are alots of examples such as the whirlwinds, tornadoes, hurricanes, growth of plants, motion of the water and atoms. On the upper left is an insect called perusha or "Do'tsoh" by the Navajo. The "Do'tsoh" has a white stripe from the nose down through the back. He brought fire to the Navajo to be used in the traditional Navajo sweatlodge from the west.

The old Navajo hoghan made out of soft sandstones, local clay and juniper's branches and is blended in with local environment. This was done because of the early Spanish atrocities as well as during the 1850's-1868. This was the period Christopher "Kit" Carson rounded up the Navajo people on behalf of the U. S. military and government. The treaty of 1849 with Mexico and U. S./Guadelupe Hildago created the removal from our aboriginal area. There were only 3,800 Navajo people survived the concentration camp. Today we multiplied to about 190,000 according to 2000 census count. -------------------------------------------- Post Traumatic Stress Disorders!!!!

The white, yellow, blue and black wind people holding snakes and make-up their body composition, In Navajo thought we are made up of little winds. There are spirals at the end of our fingers and toes. The little winds in the toes hold you to the ground. And the spiral at the top of our head hold us to the sky. They are also standing on top of the blood-dark world. The blood dark world was the beginning. The blue and red colored figure is around the snakes and wind peoples with an opening to the east. The color red is always on the outside and the blue on the inside. The contrasting combination of the colors is the white snake is border by black, the yellow by blue, the blue by yellow and the black snake is border by white. This combination of colors can be found in all the Navajo sandpainting.

The Navajo Windway Sandpainting The cactus people sandpainting is also made of the same colors of black, blue, yellow and white. The cactus is example of what the wind is designing. The wind is sharpe and travel in spiral path. The cactus has two off shoot on the left and two on the right. The border colors is the same as the snake and wind people. Their head is round which mean they are male cactus. The rectangle shape of the whole sandpainting is a female.
