FreeBSD
If you are in search of a computer operating system for a server, FreeBSD is a great choice.  It is extremely stable and fairly quick.
The best part of all it is completely FREE!  The BSD family is an adaptation of the UNIX operating system from the stone age of computers.

There are several books written on BSD commands, file systems, and scripts available.
