Clubs

If you are from London then you will know that there is a distinct lack of decent punk clubs in London. And when I say punk, I mean punk- not your pansy excuse for bad music 'punk' bands such as NOFX. Yes what I'm talking about are clubs that play decent oi!, anarcho, street punk etc.

The 2 probably, most popular and well known clubs in London are SUBLIME and TAKE WARNING- both are fine if you prefer regular skacore, ska, skate punk etc but not so great if your looking for anything else.

Sublime

Sublime has aquired a new DJ recently who (giving him credit) plays basically anything you ask him for that he has, I was lucky to get Cock Sparrer played 3 times at the last Sublime night so maybe things are improving there? Who knows. I also believe that if you bring along cd's you would like played he wouldnt have a problem with playing them, which is nice of him right?

Sublime is on every first Friday of the month from 10-2am and this month theres an Xmas special on the 22nd with a free goodie bag.Its not the cheapest place to get into but then what clubs around London are cheap? Not many thats for sure. Prices are: 4 pounds flyer/NUS or 5 pounds otherwise. The club can be found in Tuffnell Park at The Dome. Nearest Tube: Tuffnell Park

Take Warning
Take Warning is the newest addition to the London punk scene. The DJ's are the old DJ's from Sublime, so as you guessed music wise its very similar to old Sublime, here the music ranges from skacore, hardcore to skatepunk. Quite alot of pretty good two tone, 3rd wave ska gets played too (always my favourites of the night). If this is what you are into then its a 4 pound well spent. Not alot of older punk (street, 77 etc) gets played but if you bring along a cd chances are it will get put on if theres time. The venue is a little too small for my liking and it leaves you really not being able to get away from people you really wouldnt spit on which is a shame. But thats life

Recently I have been told that Take Warning will try and make it easier to request songs by having someone exempt from the DJ's taking requests which I think will work well to get a wider selection of songs played.

Its 4 quid with flyer and 5 without, the bar closes at around 1 so make sure you get all ya drinks in before then! Times are 9-2am. The club can be found at the Verge- a 10 minute walk from Camden Station.
Nearest tube: Kentish Town or Camden Town.

More clubs:

Reggae Night at the Goldsmith Tavern-

If you live near New Cross and like reggae then I'd definitely recommend this club, it's free to get in (as far as I know) and is a night packed full of roots, reggae, dub, rocksteady, two tone and so on. Its on every friday from 8-3am. The drinks are reasonable so all in all its a cheap night out. If your coming from some where other then East London it can be a bit of a trek to get to. Nearest tube: New Cross on the East London Line.

Reggae Vibes at The Lord Cecil-
I cant say I've ever personally been to this club night before but im sure its worth a try if you have a spare free night. Its on every friday from 8-2am. The Lord Cecil can be found in Hackney, nearest train station Hackney Downs or Hackney Central.
