Project Cosworth

Apr 4, 2004
OK, been a very long cold winter, did more stuff and dumped more money into the house than I should have. Now with warmer weather on tap, time to head back to the 5 car garage garage ;)
I have sold off the old solid roof XR, and found another to replace it as the project base. Pix should be available as soon as the weather gets better. Those of you in Michigan can feel my pain. This is a very stock 85, faded red, no rust, 5 speed, e3 manifold, stock chopped off exhaust, suspension bushings shot, interrior shot, clutch all messed up, weak fuel system, 3 different wheels, has absolutely no high end power, some heat shield is rattling underneith, brakes pulse so badly you swear the front end is falling apart. I recently scored a REAL Cosworth wing (not fiberglass) for a great price, so I am very excited about that.

I want to get this car running good enough for Carlisle this year, but after Carlisle, I'm pulling the engine and begining the restoration. I do not want to put too much money into the engine or drivetrain that I will rip out anyway. However, up first is fixing the clutch and getting more fuel. Besides, that stays with the body and will go with whatever new engine I use. I will replace the fuel pump(s), filter, and maybe install a Kirban adj. FPR. After we get fuel to it, laying around I have a spare cap, rotor, wires, K&N cone, Saab intercooler, Greddy BOV, large VAM, LA3, and LA3 chip mod to put in. With intake, fuel, and ECU tweaked, I expect a huge increase in power. The next restriction is the exhust, and I'm just too darn lazy to worry about that just for Carlisle. I will try some different brake rotors I have laying around to see if they are any better than the current ones. I would like to put the wing on for Carlisle, but I firmly believe I need to get some power first. I'm a firm believer of, "Don't be that guy!" You know, the one with all of the body pieces but no nuts under the hood. I want to have about 225 HP before the wing goes on. At that point the car will look like, get this:
Faded red car, shiny red Cossie wing, primer beige doors and hatch, silver Cossie grill, one white and one blue mirror, gutted interrior, and who knows what wheels I will have on then. Also, who needs a radio? I wanna listen to the engine and drivetrain for 600 miles :D 1
