The following are notes on customs found on Tureded.
The society is quite focussed on farming and ranching. Farm and ranch areas tend to be somewhat separated, with two of the starports tending to get mostly farm related cargos, one starport tending to get mostly animal related cargos, and one getting a mix of farm, animal, and miscellaneous cargos.
Farms tend to cluster in the valleys, and ranches tend to cluster in the hills. The cities around the starports are fairly modest compared to the total population, with each being between 25 and 50 thousand. The majority of the population is on the farms and ranches
Family size on the farms and ranches tend towards the large, with six or even eight children in a family being common. Those who live in the cities tend to have fewer children (three or four being common).
The general feel of the society has been described by on sector journal as "a cross between the 'American Old West' and 'The Jetsons'."
Grav vehicles are extremely common on Tureded - far more than the tech level and population would suggest. Wheeled vehicles are not uncommon in the cities, but are rare beyond them. Tracked vehicles can be found in small numbers at most larger farms and ranches, but tend to be tractors and bulldozers with some holdings not even having ATVs. Almost all adults outside the cities and many within have a grav cycle of their own. All farms and ranches will have an air/raft or two, and larger or more prosperous spreads may have dozens of air/rafts, g-carriers, and grav trucks of various designs.
All grav vehicles larger than grav cycles will have auto-pilots, but it is considered somewhat effete to use them for short trips. With a full GPS/SatCom/Weather satellite system in place, it is certainly possible to set an auto-pilot to take one anywhere needed, but most Turededians don't use them.
ONe of the significant industries on Tureded is grav vehicle modification and repair. This industry can't supply more than a small portion of the local demand, and tends to focus more on adjusting existing machines to local conditions and owners' desires.
