This is an attempt to describe Hivers
to a friend of mine who is not a Traveller player. I will attempt to not
plagiarize too much, but since there is little research into Hivers beyond "cannon"
material I can't promise much.
Here is a listing of some sources for Hiver material.
- Hivers (Alien Module 7 [263]) - The preeminent source on Hivers in the
Classic Traveller cannon. 52 pages (including the information-dense covers) of
good stuff. Contents: Hiver physiology sketches (inside front cover), Origins
of the Hivers, Hiver Physiology, Hiver Society, Psychology of the Hivers, The
Hive Federation, Guaran and Glea, History of the Hivers, Hiver Character
Generation, Worlds, Other Game Rules, Travel and Starships, Something Stinks!
(an adventure), Hivers in Traveller, Map of the Hive Federation (inside back
cover). A number of good pictures of Hivers are included in this module (as you
might expect). The front and back covers have very nice color pictures of
hivers (by Steve Venters). The rest of the book has line drawings and a few
gray-scale sketches (by Bryan Gibson and Steve Venters), with a total of 20
drawings (several of the 20 are exact duplicates used as end of section
punctuation).
- K'kree (Alien Module 2 [255]) - There is a large paragraph on page 4
describing the Hiver-K'Kree war of -2029 to -2013.
- 101 Robots - A DGP publication, this has several Hiver robots detailed.
Page 30 has a Hiver translator robot. Page 32 has a Hiver artisan robot. Page
41 has a Hiver Bruiser robot (a warbot), and a Baby Bruiser robot (a warbot).
- The Death of Wisdom (Book 1 of 3 [380]) - A major character is a Hiver, and
the ship visits a Hiver enclave on a world. There are several line drawings
including hivers in the novel.
- To Dream of Chaos (Book 2 of 3 [0381]) - A major character is a hiver.
There are several line drawings including hivers in the novel.
