Poem of the Week By Tom Miller 09/17/98
Premiered at Common Grounds Coffee House - Gainesville, Florida
the wizard of oz on ice
they were good
looking boys
lovely like the moment
gray kansas turned
the color of munchkin land
they watched the drag queen
lady pearl
more good witch
than the good witch
could ever hope to be
more bad witch
than the witch of the west
could ever dream of
it was wet & wild night
at the university club
the contestants would
dance in their
underwear and bras
pearl would throw
cold water on them
so you could see
the erect nipples
the tiny shriveled cocks
wiggle
we were all
drunk
wednesday night
in the emerald city
intoxicated
in the poppy fields
flying monkeys
watching from the balcony
the boys were
lovely
"these boys
are in the wizard of oz
on ice,"
pearl said
the wizard of oz
had come to town
and i imagined
mothers and daughters
enjoying the performance
fathers and sons
laughing together
living an american life
watching Dorothy
glide
across the yellow brick road
never guessing
the actors were
here
enjoying
penis in wet underwear
or
cleavage beneath
watered down T-shirts
never imagining
their wizard of oz was
behind the curtain
at the gay bar
with a drag queen
and a strip show
maybe it's better
we never find out
the wizard of oz is human
that oz is a movie
and kansas is in
the university club
on wednesday nights
with lady pearl
in her ruby red
high heeled slippers
never
clicked together
back
