Amazing Race Tidbits
CBS' The Amazing Race 13th Edition
Thoughts on Episode Two
Episode Two was contested entirely in Brazil. Teams had tofly from Salador to Fortaleza. The first team was informed that it might be almost 24 hours to get on the next flight, unitl the next team decided to check another counter, the GOL airline. Still, only one seat was available, until Tina Green insisted that many more people needed seats to Fortaleza. Amazingly, the ticket agent came back to Tina with word that a larger plane was being used for the flight and that enough tickets would be available for all teams. Of course, Tina insisted on taking credit, igniting fierce debate over whether she deserved first place in line. Eventually, Ken and Tina were accorded the prize, although all teams would share the same 6:45 AM flight to Fortaleza.
Teams needed to find the Plaza do Cumbuco, in the village of Cumbuco, to locate their next clue.
Beach It: From the website: Teams had to travel by bugres to a nearby beach where they had to choose a two-man crew and a traditional Brazilian boat. Using local methods, Teams needed to maneuver heavy rolling logs to drag the 440-pound vessel 100 yards across the sand and into an inlet. [Once the boat was in the water, one of the two-man helper crew would hand them their next clue.]
Dock It: From the website: Teams had to travel by bugres to the nearby Port of Pecem and search for a container hidden in the shipyard. At the port, they needed to use a computer to scour a database until they find the same unique serial number listed in their clue. After finding the number, the Teams had to use the corresponding four-letter code to locate the section of the shipyard in which their container was located. Once they located their container in the section, they would find their clue inside.
The clue directs them to find the taxi parking above the beach. It is the red arrow "road" that teams must follow! Toni later relates that it is the "mother in me" that caused her to help Terence and Sarah. Tina, on the other hand, chided Ken for passing the hapless couple, reminding him that it might be themselves that might be in a broken down car needing help.

From the website: One team member had to locate the name of their next destination, Cicade Da Crianca, somewhere along a 600-foot wall. To accomplish it quickly, racers had to embrace the laidback local culture and resist the urge to over think the numerous Portuguese ads surrounding it.
The key was finding a list of 16 names. The correct answer was among them, but no particular clue leading them to that particular answer.

Outlook for Episode Three
The nine teams have diverse backgrounds and relationships. Each of the teams has a unique combination of strengths and weaknesses. Some Racers are not as physically fit as others, and it shows already. Others have quite a bit of intelligence, while others are creative.
Mark and Bill made few mistakes, advancing on brain challenges in the Dock It activity in the Detour and in the Roadblock. Ken and Tina argued a bit following the Beach It activity, but used their athleticism to edge the friends at the mat. Tetence and Sarah made one of the greatest comebacks in any individual episode not having a Fast Forward. The bottom teams of Kelly and Christy, Andrew and Dan and Marissa and Brooke are in trouble. Kelly and Christy admitted that they simply must read the clues correctly to avoid elimination.
Watch episode three on October 12th, at 8:00 PM, unless delayed by NFL football.
