Amazing Race Tidbits
Congratulations to Tyler Denk and James Branaman! The male models overcame fierce competition, a wide variety of challenges and obstacles, and their inner demons to win AMAZING RACE 10.
From the preview for the Fall schedule, "Restricted plane travel and strict budgets" occasionally forced teams in AMAZING RACE 10 to strategize in different ways from past races. Certainly the promise of twists, turns, and surprises, kept in Episodes 1 3, 8, and 11, kept the Teams on their toes, not always knowing what to expect. Some of the episodes stood out as especially good viewing, particularly Episode 4, Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, for the difficulty of communication with locals, the rock climbing Roadblock, and the rough water rowing in the Detour, and the more intense emotions displayed by the Racers. The places visited also had emotional weight for both viewers and team members, such as the McCain flight suit at the former prison in Hanoi called the "Hanoi Hilton" by American POWs, the Kuwait segment, so close to war-torn Iraq, and the Roadblock featuring Omaha Beach in Normandy. The Finale was well paced, even though it lacked the expected length, just one hour, and lacked the closeness of competition in the latter stages. The AMAZING RACE 10 aired with the new CBS fall lineup in September, on yet another day and time, Sundays at 8 Eastern time. The challenge with Sundays is NFL football in the fall pushing back the air times from minutes to nearly an hour for the doubleheader weeks, making it harder on viewers and on those trying to catch episodes later on tape or DVR.
As the AMAZING RACE 11 airs after the Superbowl, it should be at the regular starting time for all episodes. AMAZING RACE 11, scheduled to air starting in February, will be the long rumored All Stars edition. Filming has begun and a cast list of the All Stars should appear shortly.
The cast of twelve teams for Amazing Race 10 was revealed on July 15, 2006. A 90 minute episode, the first show aired at an approximate time of 8:30PM Eastern/Pacific, on Sunday, September 17.
