| For an unpopular B-movie Robert Englund gives another outstanding performance. As remake to Gaston Leroux's 1920's classic this movie was the better then the original. Christine Day (Jill Schneider) wants a role in a play so she goes down to an audition. After getting hit with a weighing bag she passes out and dreams shes in the olden days. Robert Englund plays Eric Destler a loner who sold his soul to the devil to make his music famous after being presumed dead he lives under the stage in his layor to avoid the public. To go out he must wear make up and fake skin. He soon becomes obbsessed with Christine. Christine thinking her deceased father has sent her an "Angel" to help her sing but little does she know shes dealing with no angel but The Angel of Death and the "Angel" has other plans for her. A young Molly Shannon (SNL) has a small role in this as she plays Meg the libarian as of this was her first movie. Its weird because The Phantom of The Opera has inspired many films with the same title and new one out in 2004! I suggest you rent this if your a horror fan and havent seen it or to any ANOES fan. This is alot like the play...except the play doesent have as much gore or violence as this does :). My perspective this film definitly deserves a 10 of 10 no questions asked! |
