The year was 1996 and I was 17 years old. This was the year that Fugees had their big breakthrough with The Score and The Ready Or Not Tour reached Sweden. One of the reasons that this is my favorite concert might be because it was my first real concert experience. The show was great and Lauryn, Pras, and Wyclef gave the audience a fantastic show. I was close to the stage and it was crazy when Lauryn sat down on the end of the stage when she sang Killing Me Softly. Add that Pras was out in the crowd during Ready Or Not and you have a show that had everything.
I can still remember...it was summertime and Wu-Tang was coming to Sweden and the big music festival in Hultsfred. This was a must see for me and my friends. There where rumors before that some of the members where not coming (of course this involved O'l Dirty). However, everybody showed up and it was a great show. The stage was outside and it must have been between 10,000 and 15,000 people there. The crowd was moving all the time and Wu-Tang delivered all their hits, both from their albums (Wu-Tang Forever had just been released) and from the members solo albums. This means Shadowboxin', Liquid Swords, Ice Cream and All I Need, plus C.R.E.A.M., Tearz and all that other good stuff. This was a perfect concert, outside, lots of people and I was there with my friends.
What a show, what a show! This was just a great show, it was a part of the Okayplayer Tour and pay attention to who was there: Of course the Roots, but also Talib Kweli, dead prez, Slum Village, Bahamadia, and more. What more can you ask for. The best thing was that the Roots pretty much stayed on the stage the whole show just bringing up the other artists. It was like one big continuous show. And with people like dead prez and Talib in the house it is bond to get political, which I love. Add to this ?uestlove's giant afro behind the drum set almost the whole concert. Finally, the fact that I got in for free also helped (thanks Joe Gaspary)
MORE CONCERTS
Ludacris was there to get the crowd going (this was when he was not super famous) and that was good stuff. However, everybody was there to see Big Boi and Dre. They didn't disappoint anyone, they did songs from all their albums, Player's Ball, Rosa Parks, Ms. Jackson, Elevators (Me & You), So Fresh, So Clean and so on. The finale was B.O.B. and that really rocked the house. Outkast just went all out and it was a great show. Respect to Dre for wearing his tight pink 70's outfit including shoulder pads and a cape.
