    • 5/99-present: Systems Analyst/Web Development Manager, Health Content Products
      • Manage technical aspects of development and maintenance of the website of the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Translate business requirements into technical specifications for website development, oversee outsourced development efforts by several vendors, collaborate with content management system experts in-house to create new elements and page templates, develop interactive elements using primarily javascript and SQL.
      • Software used includes Eprise Participant Server, StarTeam, Dreamweaver/Fireworks, javascript, ColdFusion, Visual C++, SQL Server.

    • 3/90-5/99: Assistant Systems Developer/Associate Systems Developer/Systems Developer, Display Products Division
      • Performed analysis, design, specification, development, and maintenance of large-scale portable C-language software products in two main areas: SAS/PUBLISH, a full-featured desktop publishing system with its own extensible markup language, PML; and SAS/AF, an object-oriented applications development environment, with sole responsibility for the module that handles allocation of screen real estate, event redirection, and the graphical user interface.
      • Performed analysis, design, and specification of the Region object in the SCOM object-oriented redesign of the SAS System. This object was responsible for the same screen rendering, event redirection, and GUI behaviors as the SAS/AF module it was to replace.
      • Performed analysis and wrote design proposal for a new Layout Manager object for SAS/AF to allow users to control complex behaviors under window resizing via an intuitive GUI.
      • Performed analysis and wrote design proposal for a Message Management System to make creation and documentation of consistent and translatable error messages easier across all SAS products.
      • Designed, developed, and maintained the Tab Layout Object.
      • Maintained and enhanced the Print Manager Object.
    • 11/88-3/90: Publications Programmer, Publications Division
      • Wrote VERSACOMP composition programs to typeset SAS documentation.
      • Created MAXRO, a user-definable macro language to allow use of a single compiled program with multiple stylesheets to produce different styles of documents ranging from pocket syntax guides to SAS Communications, our customer magazine.

  • 9/81-5/88: G.K.Hall & Company, Boston, MA
    • 11/87-5/88: Project Manager, Electronic Publishing Systems
      • Created BASE, a relational database and electronic publishing package to allow Marketing to manage information about G.K. Hall titles and automate publishing of sales catalogs, written with Clarion 4GL. Continued refinement of software projects described below.
    • 11/85-11/87: Typesetting Services Manager
      • Managed in-house composition of Large Print Books (approx. 55,000 pages/year) with five staff members and $200,000/year budget.
      • Installed Xyvision 300 system, revamped departmental workflow and trained all staff members.
      • Wrote C shell scripts for UNIX system to enable new composition modes not supported by Xyvision, add terminal ports, and ease file maintenance.
    • 9/81-11/85: Book Production Assistant/Editor/Supervisor
      • Rose through Production ranks. By 11/85 was producing 3 product lines (160 titles/year) with 2 full time employees and 16 freelance contractors. Duties included supervisory, graphic design, type specification.
