Fred Mintzer
extended list of
IEEE volunteer activities, continued
Also as President

At my first TAB meeting as SPS President, I represented SPS in our Society Review and participated in SPSs Publication Review. The information gathered was revealing; I later composed educational presentations for incoming SPS officers and for incoming members of the SPS Publications Board.

As SPS President-Elect and President, I fostered creation of two new Technical Committees one on Bio Image and Signal Processing and one on Information Forensics and Security that represented two emerging  areas of interest to the signal processing community. SPS added two publications, noted earlier. SPS also added workshops on language processing and genomic signal processing two other areas emerging in the signal processing community.

Overall, I believe I was instrumental in fostering activites and relationships in several new and emerging areas of interest to the changing signal processing community. If elected Division IX Director-Elect, I will foster new activities and relationships in areas of interest to the changing electrical engineering community.

Finance

My experiecne as Finance Chair of ICIP 95 helped prepare me to serve as VP Finance of the Society. There, I developd a sequence of positive budgets - but a roaring stock market did deserve some of the credit.  Financially, SPS is in excellent shape.

While on the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) from 2004-05, I served on several TAB FinCom subcommittees.

Strategic Planning

My predecessors as SPS President intiated Long Range Planning (LRP) for the Society. As President-Elect, I forged a stronger connection between SPS's LRP and strategic planning. LRP became a formal respnsibility of the President-Elect and a standing committee was formed to ensure continuity of SPS LRP activities. LRP has helped SPS to focus on longer-term problels and longer-term opportunities.

While on TAB in 2004-05, I participated in the TAB Biotech Council, a pioneering effort to partner with other technical societies on the emerging biotech application area. I am proud of the small part I played on this Council.
