SOC 308 FINAL EXAMINATION

Instructions: Answer the following questions and submit your work at the start of our class on June 8, 2005. Please return this sheet together with your neatly typed answers (in hard copy, no more than 6 pages).

Select one major social problem and then discuss its nature or effect on the quality of American life. (The topics can come from the text or from other sources that you must document.) Try to explain why or how its existence as a problem makes life somewhat unsavory for many Americans, and why ignoring it will make things worse for the American society. Whenever possible, your discussion must use any of the perspectives provided in the text (e.g., conflict theory, functionalism, interactionsm, etc.) for more meaning and relevance. Then, suggest some measures/policy implications to correct the social problem you have identified.

Your topic must not be the same as the one you reported orally in class or the one you have written a reaction paper about.
