Well, the kid is obviously lying. I mean, she just doesnt want to get in trouble. I can understand that, but just look around you. She obviously ran away. Kaylee blabbered.
You I started again, but was interfered with Elijahs hand clasping around my mouth. Dammit!
Uncle Billy seemed to be deep in thought, his eyes were black though and I knew I better keep my mouth shut.
Okay, thats quite enough. Merry spoke, using his usual voice only it was different, like he was absolutely fed up and wanted to hit something. I hoped it would be Kaylee.
Kaylee seemed very surprised at what happened next. Merry walked over to her and in a single motion, had her over his shoulder.
Wha What are you doing?! Kaylee shrieked from her dangling position on Merrys arm.
Ive had enough of this bullshit. Billy, if youll excuse me.
Uncle Billy looked shocked for a moment, but it didnt last as he ran to catch up with Merry, who was all ready on his way to the front door.
Dom. Dom! Orlie called, racing after him, Uncle Billy hot on his heals.
I looked up at Elijah, who just shrugged. This wasnt part of the plan. He said. Come on Alex, lets see what Doms up to.
I nodded as Elijah bent down on his knee. I climbed on his back, and we followed the others outside.
We reached the door just as I saw Merry drop Kaylee on the grass with a thud. He actually dropped her!
Now listen up you stupid girl. If you were anywhere near a half decent human being, you would have told the truth. Merry bellowed. Because of your own incompetence, Alex almost he paused, his voice quivering a bit. I gulped. Merry was supposed to be the tough one.
Uncle Billy stepped off the porch, walking over to the scene. He placed his hand on Merrys shoulder and I watched in awe as Merry turned towards us. He had his head down, but I felt he was upset. Really upset.
Come on Dom. Mr. Bean sighed, taking Merry around the shoulders and bringing him inside. Elijah had to side step to get outta the way, but as Merry passed the guilt inside my tummy seemed to grow. This was awful.
Elijah walked outside at this moment, placing me on the step. Orlie was right beside me thankfully, cause he took my hand and squeezed it lightly. See? I told you he always looks on the bright side of things!
My guilt, however, still remained.
Uncle Billy towered over Kaylee, who hadnt dared to move from her spot on the ground. She looked terrified, but I could still see some defiance in her eyes.
Uncle Billy took a deep breath, his fists clenched, I could tell he was trying to remain calm. Now Kaylee. Youve outright lied to us. As Dominic said, if you had any decency left in you, we wouldnt be in the situation we are right now.
What are you talking about? Kaylee snapped, her whole nice-girl act fading away. The true Kaylee was revealed. I told you, I watched the kid, I cant believe youre going to believe some stupid brat over me!
Kaylee was on her feet in a flash, not by choice of course for Uncle Billy had her up by her arm. Dont you EVER call my niece anything ever again! he screamed, and I mean screamed.
I shrank behind Orlie and Elijah. I had never seen Uncle Billy like this before.
You git! You complete idiot! She almost he stopped for a second, just like Merry did. She almost died tonight because of your freakin incompetence!
My eyes widened. I hadnt thought of that.
She ran away because of you, because of how you treated her you obsessed freak. A kid in downtown Auckland a child for Gods sake, at night! YOU were supposed to watch her! YOU were supposed to be her babysitter! he screamed.
Kaylees face had turned red at the mention of her being obsessed but now she looked almost in tears.
And to think, Orlando and Dominic warned me about you. I should have listened to them, for you are nothing but an immature girl. His voice calmed a bit as he raised his fist. Now get off my property.
Kaylee growled. Not without my things. She spat.
Elijah took this as his cue. He promptly walked into the house, and a few seconds later came out with Kaylees bag. He threw it to the end of the lawn and Kaylee watched it fly over her head. She quickly ran over and picked it up, searching threw it for a couple seconds.
Hey! she snapped, Wheres my pictures?
Pictures? No. They arent your pictures. Seeing as how they are of us, I believe I will be hanging on to those.
Kaylee growled. This is cruel and unfair! Those were mine.
Yet, you manage to let my niece almost die, and thats not cruel or unfair? Beat it ya hackit.
Kaylee scowled, but not at Uncle Billy, at me. Uh oh. She then turned and stalked off down the street. I knew then that that wasnt the last time Id see Kaylee. I knew that she would want to get back at me for tattlin on her.
I broke away from Orlies grip and slowly walked over to stand beside Uncle Billy. He turned and smiled slightly at me. Dont you worry Alex. She wont be back.
I nodded, just so Uncle Billy felt better, but I knew different.
Uncle Billy picked me up and headed back indoors. Elijah an Orlie followed us in, shuttin the door behind them.
The first thing I saw made my heart fall. What had I done?
Merry was on the couch, his head in his hands. He looked almost defeated and his gash was looking pretty nasty.
Dom? Are you okay? Orlie asked softly, walking over to sit beside him.
Yeah. Im fine. Came the muffled reply, I could tell right away that he was cryin.
Uncle Billy sighed. Come on Alex. Bedtime.
I nodded, as we headed towards his room. You dont have to sleep in that awful mess. Ill clean it all up tomorrow.
I nodded, not caring. I just wanted to sleep.
Uncle Billy pulled off my shoes and tucked me into his bed. I watched as he left the room, pausing slightly to turn and take one last look at me. I watched in quiet disbelief as a faint tear escaped down the side of his cheek. With that, Uncle Billy left the room, shutting the door behind him.
