In Scott Summers' case, looks can kill! Scott's eyes project devastating force
beams that cannot be controlled, merely aimed. Forever in fear of unleashing
their power and causing untold destruction, Cyclops is still a confident and
good-natured leader whose concerns for his teammates override his own troubles.
He has to try to be a good role model for the kids at the institute since he is
considered a teacher. He is one of the original students of Xavier therefore he
has a lot of experience
He can be sort of a macho-man sometimes to try to impress Jean and end up
looking like an idiot. Scott is considered to be a good sport, he can take a
joke. When he was young, his parents died in a plane crash. He and his brother
Alex jumped out just in time but Scott's parachute caught on fire and he hit the
ground pretty hard. Scott fell in a coma, when he got awake, he was told his
brother Alex has died which is totally untrue. Scott wont ever forget that
traumatic experience.
Scott is a bit revolutionary, deep down he wishes he could reveal the X-men to
the world but unfortunately, the world is not yet ready for mutants. Especially
some with destructive powers like his destructive optic blast.
He is a very caring person, once in a while he goofs around but most of the time
he keeps his cool. His eyes hide behind those glasses at school and yet, no one
really asks themselves why...

Longtime leader of the
X-Men, Scott Summers is cursed with optic blasts that fire whenever he opens his
eyes. Cyclops must wear a
protective ruby-quartz visor to hold these destructive beams in check -- or risk
destroying everyone and everything around him!
Real name: Scott Summers
Occupation: Adventurer
Group affiliation: X-Men, formerly X-Factor
Base of operations: Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, Westchester County,
New York
First appearance: X-Men (Vol. 1) #1 (1963)
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 185 lbs.
Eye color: Glowing red
Hair color: Brown
Powers: Cyclops possesses the mutant ability to project a beam of concussive
force from his eyes. As he cannot control his optic blasts, he must wear a visor
or glasses with ruby-quartz lenses that block the beams.
Weapons: None
History: Scott Summers was the first of two sons born to Major Christopher
Summers, a test pilot for the U.S. Air Force, and his wife, Katherine. Major
Summers was flying his family home from vacation aboard a vintage aircraft when
a midair accident crippled the Summers' plane. Katherine pushed Scott and his
brother, Alex, out the door with the only available parachute. With Christopher
and Katherine presumed dead, the authorities separated the two boys: Alex was
adopted, but Scott remained comatose in a hospital for a year. On recovering, he
was placed in an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska. Years later, as a teenager, Scott
began to suffer from severe headaches and eyestrain. He was sent to a
specialist, who discovered that lenses made of ruby quartz corrected the
problem.
While Scott was visiting a large city, his mutant power finally erupted --
bursting forth in an uncontrollable blast of optic force that demolished a
crane, causing it to drop its payload toward a terrified crowd. Scott saved the
onlookers' lives by obliterating the object with another blast. But the
bystanders rallied into an angry mob, believing that he had tried to kill them.
Scott fled, escaping on a freight train. The telepathic, telekinetic Professor
Charles Xavier rescued the youngster from an abusive foster parent and enlisted
him as the first member of the X-Men, a team of young mutants he planned to
train to use their powers -- and in time, stand in defense of a world on the
brink of genetic war.
As Cyclops, Scott became deputy leader of the X-Men. While he was a natural
field general, his social skills were somewhat lacking. Scott had fallen in love
with teammate Jean Grey, born with the powers of telepathy and telekinesis, but
his reserved demeanor prevented him for years from expressing his feelings. When
Xavier's other original recruits left the fold following an encounter with the
sentient island-being Krakoa, Cyclops stayed on as deputy leader of the
"new" X-Men. Shortly thereafter, the cosmic entity known as the
Phoenix Force took Jean's place on the team. When the Phoenix Force committed
suicide, Scott believed the love of his life had died. Grief-sticken, he left
the X-Men. After returning to the team, Scott met and married Madelyne Pryor --
unaware she was a clone of Jean created by the master geneticist called Mr.
Sinister. Scott and Madelyne had a baby boy, Nathan Christopher, and Cyclops
again parted ways with the X-Men.
When the real Jean emerged from suspended animation, Scott left his wife and
rejoined the original X-Men to establish a new team: X-Factor. Madelyne went
insane, developed superhuman powers and perished in combat with Jean. After
Cyclops and the founding members of X-Factor returned to the X-Men, the mutant
warlord known as Apocalypse infected Nathan with a techno-organic virus. To save
his son's life, Scott was forced to allow a time-traveling member of the Askani
Clan to transport Nathan two millennia into the future, where it had been
foreseen that he deliver would the world from annihilation at the hands of
Apocalypse. Inevitably, Scott married Jean. While they were on their honeymoon,
Mother Askani -- matriarch of the Askani Clan -- drew their spirits into the
future. There, they inhabited new bodies; as Slym and Redd, the couple raised
Nathan into early adolescence. When Scott and Jean returned to their own time
and bodies, Nathan remained in the 30th century; he would mature into his time's
greatest hero: Cable.
After Nathan had traveled back in time to avert mankind's destruction,
Apocalypse captured the Twelve: powerful mutants who would determine the fate of
their kind -- including Scott, Jean and Cable. They were wired to a machine that
would channel their awesome energies into Apocalypse, allowing him to absorb the
body of X-Man -- a time-tossed teenager possessed of vast telepathic and
telekinetic power -- and ascend to cosmic awareness. As his teammates fell
around him, a powerless Scott shoved X-Man out of Apocalypse's draining circuit,
merging with the would-be conqueror to create a new evil entity. Jean detected
Scott's psyche inside Apocalypse and prevented the X-Men from destroying him.
However, he was presumed dead by most of his teammates. Only Cable and Jean
refused to believe Scott had perished. Investigating rumors he was alive, they
found him struggling to reassert his mind over Apocalypse's psyche. With Jean's
help, Cable exorcised the warlord and shattered his essence. Thanks to the
support of his adopted family, Scott was able to shake off the devastating
effects of his merger with Apocalypse and rejoin the X-Men

Cyclops
only has eyes for new bride "X-MEN" STAR James Marsden's eyes shoot
out killer rays as he plays Cyclops in the summer's
hottest new movie -- but he only had eyes for his lovely bride when he recently
wed soap actress Lisa Linde.
The gala affair was held at Nashville's historic Union Station Hotel ballroom,
which was lavishly decorated for the event with candles and flowers.
Lisa, 28, who played Ali McIntyre on the soap "Days of Our Lives,"
walked down the aisle in front of 75 guests in a traditional white gown,
complete with veil and train. James, 26, wore a black tux.
The pair, who've been dating for four and a half years, also hosted a festive
brunch for relatives and friends the next day at the hotel.
FAST FACT!
James Marsden was studying broadcast journalism at Oklahoma State University but
left in his sophomore year to seek stardom in Hollywood. "It was a
traditional wedding, just like my wife and I had," a beaming Luther Marsden,
James' grandfather, revealed to the "National Enquirer". "Lisa
looked really lovely -- she's a beautiful girl. "At the wedding, they
looked like they are really in love, and they are. Both families think they're a
great match. I think they're perfect together."
