STIR OF
ECHOES
"Stir up them Echoes and you'll have
The Shining on a date with
The 6th Sense"
A few years ago we were sent 'Screaming' by a horror film written by new genre guru, Kevin Williamson and directed by Horror Meister, Wes Craven. Naturally, the result was an onslaught of sequels and imitators.
But then here came 1999, and Hollywood finally pulled its head out enough to realize what the people were aching for in their horror-
SUSPENSE.
And we were soon delighted by a couple of overachievers:
"Blair Witch" and "6th Sense".
Blood and Guts were finished splattering and Scare was taking over!
(just wait til MY scripts are produced!)
But the cool part is ..the trend is continuing.
Introducing
"Stir of Echoes".
Of course, one can't help but chuckle a little at the thought of Kevin Bacon in a scary movie .but in all honesty, could we really picture Bruce Willis in the same?
Well, you can put your preconceptions aside ..
'Cause we GOT SCARE.
Here's the lowdown.
Picture a little boy who talks with ghostage, and his father who hallucinates ghostage and becomes pissed over it. Sound a little like the films suggested in my title?
Well, this flick may be 'shining' with the '6th sense', it does offer its own thrills.
Basically we have Mr. Sizzling who, after being hypnotized, begins hallucinating and dreaming ghosts and events yet to come. And like our "Sense", these visions are clues leading towards answers. And, like "The Shining", it all starts to go to his head and make him pissy (see what happens when you eat bacon???).
Now, stir in a frustrated (but hot!) wife and some neighbors w/some flucked up secrets, and you've got the Halloween edition of Geraldo.
This film was written and directed by David Koepp (Jurassic; M:IMP), so you know you're going to get thrills with some humor thrown er ..stirred in.
I did enjoy this film despite almost nodding off a couple of times (I've got to stop indulging in cocktails before the late show!). Bacon's visions were a bit creepy and his young son made you a tad nervous.
However, I especially enjoyed the point of his hypnotizing, or I should say, when he came out of it. We were treated with it from his point of view, which was very quick, but it became clear that he was under for awhile and apparently did and said some strange poop.
