"JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK"

Wow.

Remember those twisted films "Clerks", "Chasing Amy", "Mallrats" and "Dogma"? You may remember some of the actors in those films such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris Rock.

The writer and director of those films was Kevin Smith, and though a younger filmmaker, he has managed to create a trademark for himself…..he is one blunt dude. His characters use the 'F' word so much that it makes any Scorcese/Deniro movie look like Disney. What I most admire about him is his determination in being honest and upfront about his opinions on various subjects (afterall, in the eyes of the religious, could he have been any more 'sac-religious' with "Dogma"?).

Another Smith-made trademark is 2 reocurring characters from every film:

Jay and Silent Bob. These are essentially 2 punks who hang out daily outside the local (Jersey) Quik Mart, smoking, drinking, dealing pot and cursing up a storm. In his previous films, Smith used them ocassionally……sortof as a crude (but hilarious) commercial break from the action of the movies.

Well, our 2 rude little 'smoochie boochies' have branched out and made their own film. And its nucking futs.

Here's sortof the storyline……….

Our 2 f'weeds find out that a movie is being made based on them and the characters they created for a comic and their comic writer friend went for the money and left them out. Now, that's fine w/ them. What they're pissed at is all the negative reaction on the internet. They feel they are being mis-represented and, therefore, decide to embark on a mission to Hollywood to STOP the film from being made.

And that's when it gets CRAZY……..

Not only do their adventures take them everywhere from the desert (in Utah as a gay couple w/ an orangutan child) to Scooby-Doo's Mystery Machine (no sh*t), but the various people they run into makes it all so much fun because we're talkin' celebrity GALORE.

I was floored at the amount of celebrities in this movie, even if only in bit parts. Every scene had me chirping "Hey, that's so-and-so!"

But my favorite aspects of the film were the inside jokes and references to all Kevin Smith's films and various MIRAMAX films (his studio connection). Sure, being familiar w/ those aspects made it that much more hilarious and clever, but Smith's humor stands on its own.

And he pulls some pretty racy caca, but it's all in fun and making fun of ourselves and society.

So if you have issues w/ hearing the 'F' word (and other colorful words), stay away. However, if you can appreciate it for the mockery it is, enjoy Jay and Silent Bob as they 'F' up Hollywood.

My grade: A-
