"BLADE 2"

I'm not a big Wesley Snipes fan, but these movies are cool.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, here's the general storyline behind the character.

Vampires are trying to take over the world. Like the usual, they sleep in the day and hunt at night. But these vamps look like normal people, hold jobs like us, and party like us. So at night time, they lure regular peeps into their element and feast upon them.

However, these vampies have an enemy, and his name is Blade. He is part vampire and part human. He is also a bad-ass who has an arsonel that would humble Batman.

Blade, played by Snipes, is what the vampage refer to as a "Daywalker" because he is able to be in sunlight, thus making him even more dangerous for the Vampinese.

The original film was pretty cool. It included impressive fighting scenes, exciting weapons and great F/X.
Then along came the inevitable sequel, and with most sequels, we expect the quality to drop. But this one was different.

This time, the story we're given is very ironic…..the Vamps have created a 'virus' that turns them into Super-Vamps. They are super because they are now unaffected by anti-Vamp bullets, they grow back limbs, it's a bitch to stake them in the heart, and they resemble the main vampire from "Salem's Lot" (Mr. Barlow…whom I LOVE). Their next goal is to be able to hang out in day light.

But here's the problem….these Super Suckers don't just pick on humans. They also inhale VAMPIRES. And that's bad for the Vampy community.

So, who do they ironically turn to for help?

Yep, Blade. And though he's reluctant, he does join them and brings his 'ol buddy, Whistler (Kris Kristopherson), along.
But they must hurry and waste the main Super-Vampman, or the world is a big Bloody Mary (sorry, couldn't resist).

I found this sequel very much like the original, but the fighting scenes were mucho more impressiveo. Wesley must have been crouching with some tigers in his preparation for this film. And the direction by Guillermo del Torro was total eye candy with hints of both "Crouching" and "The Matrix".

And being a DJ, I can't allow the awesome soundtrack to go unmentioned, which included the likes of ear candy masters Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim and Crystal Method.

Now, what were my issues with it?

They were primarily technical aspects which I won't bat around for this review. But I will say that, and again, it paralleled the original a bit too much; some of the scenes were next to identical. Plus, I felt there were too many gaps where Blade wasn't present (the rest of the Vampire gang was getting the attention), and that bothered me because I am watching "Blade" so that I will SEE BLADE.

All in all, it was definitely entertaining. It didn't offer much that was new, but it was entertaining.

My grade: B
