| Super Smash Brothers Melee (Rated T for Teen) Once again things have gone wrong in the Nintendo universe, as the beloved characters that built a franchise, get sick of each other and start letting their fists do the talking for them. Youd think that Nintendo would shell out some psychotherapy for them, something tells me that Luigi, Marios little brother, is behind the whole thing. Hes a troublemaker. Characters from several Nintendo exclusive games turn up in this one game, including characters from the Mario series, the Zelda series, the Pokemon series, along with the return of the Ice Climbers, who havent been heard from in roughly 20 years. Essentially its an all out drag out brawl with 14 primary characters and 11 unlockable characters, making for a whopping 25 characters in all. Essentially the game is pretty close to a 2-D fighter. For those of you purists who loved the old days of the 2-D 8-bit game, there is an adventure mode that can let you play it up Mario Brothers style, its like a souped up classic Nintendo game, only totally new. Of course it has the four player brawl, knock over the edge royal rumble style fighting, but with more characters than ever before and with the souped up abilities of the Game cube backing it, when you turn it on youre in for a hell of a ride. Okay one problem I had with this game was the unfamiliarity of some of the characters. Ive never seen this Ness before, did I miss something? As for two of the unlockable characters, Marth and Roy, I did some research and found out that this game is their first trip over the pond to American shores. They have been in a series of games called Fire Emblem, and they are awesome but there are too many aspects of this game that Americans have never seen before, and therefore they have no history with a small chunk of this game. Another thing is that the fight computer tends to cheat, a lot, making it difficult to get some aspects of the game done. What I love about this game is the trophy collecting challenge. There are literally hundreds of trophies that you collect as you play. I dont know whats going to happen when I get them all, because I havent gotten them all yet. Nor have I unlocked all of the characters. However I have played this game nearly two hours a night for the past week, and have managed to unlock much of it. Some would argue that this game might be childish but its got all the real violence of some of the other fighting games out on the market right now, without any of the blood. So should you buy this game? Well do you have a fond memory of the earlier Nintendo systems, or games? How about if you just love tasteful gaming? Or perhaps if you like a large amount of selection when you game? On any front this game is for you. Its a terrific way to kill time. Back |
