| With me talking about GBA, DC, and PS1 so often I feel that I have ignored a fundamental part of the gaming industry, the PC. Escape from Monkey Island is the latest in Lucasarts Monkey Island series. It features the Urkel of Pirates Guybrush Threepwood returning from his honeymoon with his newlywed wife, the Governess of Melee Island, Elane Marley. They return to find that while they were gone not only has Elane been thought to be dead but a greedy land developer has been buying up property of Melee and other islands and that their old enemy the ghost pirate LeChuck has also been running for Elanes position. How will Guybrush figure this one out? Well for starters, to answer my own Question, I don't know. You see the game is huge, two CD's. And when combined with my erratic schedule I have not had the time to make it to the end. I plan to reach the end of CD one by November. However what I have played so far has been entertaining. Despite some of the games minor flaws. Flaw 1: The Control, what made the previous Monkey Island games fun was that they were point and click mouse interface. This game actually makes you work a Keyboard or a Joystick to move the characters. And to make him do stuff you have to remember which keys and buttons do what. I think this will make a return in future Monkey Island games. Flaw 2: The Graphics, the graphics are beautiful. The cartoon characters brought from a 2d environment to a 3d environment. However for those of us with computers a year or older and with the hard drive over 90% full (MP3's will do that) the game runs very very slowly. Like I said the game is a fantastic game and despite the major flaws I would still recommend this game to anyone who enjoys puzzle games like Day of the Tenticle, Sam and Max: Hit the Road, and the previous 3 Monkey Island games. |
