| Behold the best RPG of 2000, which is an accomplishment considering that it came out same year as Final Fantasy 9. What I read was it was a toss up but what made the difference was that while Final Fantasy had a lot of video game history, Chrono Cross was a labor of love... and it shows. Gameplay itself was fantastic. It offers you something Final Fantasy never has... the opportunity to run from battle before you get into a fight. With FF you just wander around and every once in a while a fight just magically appears. Chrono Cross you get to see the bad guys coming. But the game itself is beautifully rendered, and you can feel the affection went into it. I will openly admit that the story was so entrancing and beautiful that there were several points when I weeped openly when tragedy struck. Granted I am an emotional guy, but still. The Control was great, it was typical of a PS1 game. It didn't seem to go out of the way to make it hard to control the characters. Which is great. The battle system is confusing at first but easily mastered. There is no end to the amount of characters that you can play and the types of character get confusing at times but even out eventually. The graphics were good however there is one part in which the game has a flaw. When a character is on the ropes and about to be defeated he tends to slump over. Well some of the characters are all ready slumped over, Hunchbacks, zombies, etc, etc, etc. So they are either too difficult to tell when they are about to kick off or they lean too much and it defies physics. Either way it's a minor flaw So if you got a PS1 (it will look better on PS2 but PS1 is the minimum) then get Chrono Cross. It truly is a stricking, fun, entrancing game. |
