John and George were sat in the recording studio with Paul and Ringo who were working together on a couple of songs that Olivia, George's widow, had given to them. She had told them that she couldn't have thought of two better people to record them. They were discussing last night's events when they had been playing about with poor Ringo's dreams as means of a test. The test had succeeded and John was very pleased indeed.
"See! I told you that it would work didn't I? We can start on the real thing now!!"
"Yeh I suppose it did but..."
"But what?"
"Are we just going to jump straight in and make Ringo think that he is dead or are we going to work our way up?"
John thought about this for a while. "I think we should go straight in. I mean we did do a test and it worked pretty well so..."
"Mmm...so what's the plan then?
Suddenly something made them jump. It was Ringo playing the drums so hard he could wake the dead! Even Paul looked slightly shocked.
"I can't remember writing it like that," mumbled George.
"Back to the plan then" said John "I've been thinking. We could actually make Ringo dream that he is in heaven with us. We just bring his unconscious state with us. But there is one problem with that"
"Which is?"
"If he starts to believe that he is dead he will actually die"
George looked at John shocked. "You cannot be serious!!! This is supposed to be a game and correct me if I am wrong but games aren't supposed to kill"
"We won't let it go that far. We'll just wake him up"
"How do we do that? I thought we were just going to play around with his dreams. Not go this far!"
"It's easy enough to wake someone up from a dream you just give them a scare inside the dream like pushing them off a cliff or something"
George gazed into the distance thinking about what he was being told. Even though he knew it was wrong he was beginning to warm to the idea. They wouldn't let it go to far and they certainly knew how to scare Ringo. They'd done it enough times while he was a Beatle.
"OK...I'll help you but as soon as things get to serious that is it we are waking him up."
"Fine fine" smiled John "we'll do it tonight"
They spent the rest of the morning in silence watching their two friends recording together. George couldn't shake off the feeling that he had that this could be the last time that they ever did.....
