The Case for Christ,
by Lee Strobel
Recommended by Mike Markcity
A journalist
investigates some of the toughest objections to Christianity. What
medical, scientific, and historical evidence do we have to prove the existence
of Jesus Christ? How reliable is the Bible? A perfect book for the
intellectual, the doubter, and the inquisitive.
The Prayer of Jabez,
by Dr. Bruce Wilkenson
Recommended by Becky Kinley
Jabez was one of the Bible's most overlooked
heroes of the faith. It is a short book, only 6-7 chapters, but it says a lot.
A Walk to Remember, by Nicholas Sparks
Recommended by Mike Markcity
A very quick read about a first love (but not
necessarily a Romance novel, so guys can read it too). The setting is
small town America in the late 50's with a cool Christian message. Runs the
gambit of emotions (but primarily a tear jerker). Written by the same author
that wrote Message in a Bottle.
The Five Love Languages,
by Gary Chapman.
Recommended by Scott Goetz.
Great book for married couples or anyone
wanting to improve and better understand their "love"
relationships. This book explores "Love" from a Christian
perspective. Additionally, our class will be using Chapman's book in our
class discussions during the months of August and September.
Left Behind, by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
Recommended by Karen Smith, Mike Markcity, Cheri Markcity, Dennis Fannon
First Book in the Christian fiction Left
Behind series. In one cataclysmic moment, millions around the world
disappear. In the midst of global chaos, airline captain Rayford Steele
must search for his family and for answers. As Rayford and millions
struggle to cope with a life without loved ones and understand what has
happened, Rayford discovers that the disappearances were predicted with
startling clarity two thousand years ago in the Bible. As devastating as
the disappearances have been, Rayford learns that the darkest days lie ahead as
prophecy after prophecy come true. Fictional account based the book of
Revelation spanning the rapture, tribulation, and second coming of Christ.
The Book of God (The Bible as a Novel),
by Walter Wangerin, Jr.
Recommended by Ray Skelton
The Book of God follows the biblical story in
chronological order, dramatizing biblical events and bringing life and emotion
to the characters. Written in novel format with added character
development and narrative, the book is an interesting and excellent way to read
and understand biblical historical events and truths.
Teaching to Change Lives, by Dr. Howard Hendricks
Recommended by Scott Goetz
Scott says it is one of the best teaching
guides he had read, and it is a must read for every Small Group leader.
