Playoff Game # 4

Welcome to the big show, as Wednesday was game 1 of the Chankavich Cup Finals where the 2 best teams of the Floor Hockey season squared off for the most coveted award in all of floor hockey. The teams were excited as smiles found their way onto nearly every players face as they knew that by making it here, they have already accomplished so much. But behind those smiles of anticipation, were people who knew that they must have their game faces on when the ball dropped.

Centurions were long awaiting the ball drop as they have been preparing since we last saw them leave the floor in their last series against Danger Patrol. They looked at hours upon hours of tape and gathered up what they thought would be a great game plan for game one. The ball dropped and immediately you could tell they were prepared. Right off the faceoff Ryan Buchanan jumped forward as soon as the ball dropped and caused Team First place to freeze. He took it right in and got a shot on goal. T-Money came up huge with the stop but there was no stopping Bobbie MacDonald as he potted his 3rd of this playoffs and got the Centurions out in front early 1-0.  The centurions didn't stop there as they felt they could keep it coming and they did as Brent Milljour got his 2nd goal of these playoffs and it was an important one. Shortly after, Bobbie MacDonald came up huge once again and netted his 2nd of the night making it 3-0.  The crowd was then on fire as they watched the centurions most successful off season trade work as in the first 5 minutes they got 3 goals. The centurions fought hard to try and keep the shut out but with time running down in the 1st, Aaron Kirouac did a phenomenal move to get out of the corner and released a beautiful wrist shot, beating G-Temp cleanly top corner. The centurions then shut the door for the remainder of the period as the teams switched sides with the score 3-1.

Frustrations were growing on team first place once the 2nd started as they just had no answer for the defense the centurions were throwing at them and then in turn the offence as well.  Early in the 2nd Ryan Buchanan got his 2nd goal of these playoffs now making the score 4-1 but the centurions were far from being done. Brett McCormac saw the score and thought that his defense helps the team but he wanted to show the crowd his offensive presence as he managed to score one goal off a Brent Milljour shot  as well as getting one from downtown.  This made the score 6-1 and thats the way this one finished up as the Centurions take game one convincingly.

TSN's Monster Performer

Captain Ryan Buchanan + Brent Milljour

TSN's MONSTER performers are Brent Milljour and Ryan Buchanan, and they are both first time Monsters. These handsome  gentlemen were so essential to this win as they helped out all they could.  Both of them being very good offensively today but what might not be as appreciated in later days was the solid defensive effort these men had today. Both of these guys deserve to be the monster.

But I can't say enough good things about Bobbie, Brett and Gordo. All of these guys were top notch in todays win. If it was for them helping out too, I assure you we would be looking a 1-0 series lead for the other guys. Kudos!

Coach Chankavich's Keys for Next game

I want to keep today's short and sweet as we did play a great game today. But in a series, great games don't count for anymore then a close one, and we must keep that in mind. We're up 1-0 but it could quickly swing back to being even in a minute.  We must remember to keep focus and stick to our game plan and come out as strong or stronger then we did for this last one. Great game boys, lets keep up the good work. Until next time...
