Temptations

 

Definition: Enticement to our natural God-given desires to go outside the boundaries God has set.  (James 1:12-16  1 Peter 5:8-9)

 

More spiritual, more sensitive to sin, therefore more temptations

1 Corinthians 10:13 – method to combat

 

  1. Take captive your thoughts – 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
  2. Submit and Resist in the power of the Holy Spirit – James 4:7-8
  3. Don’t narrow our focus to object of temptation. Look at big picture – Gal 6:7
    1. Consequences to me and those around me?
    2. Am I prepared to pay the price?
    3. Is there a better way to get this need met?

 

  1. Identify strengths and weaknesses – 1 Corinthians 10:12
  2. Choose to think on the victory of God – Romans 12:12
  3. Make yourself accountable to a friend – Ecc 4:9
  4. Identify danger zones in your life – 1 Thes 4:3
  5. Set a time for prayer and meditation – James 1:8
  6. Put on the whole armor of God – Ephesians 6:13-18
