This can be a dangerous activity. It is a blindfolded activity and involves a tremendous amount of trust on the pledges part in the brothers or sisters. There is usually other events that lead up to this event, but we will just discuss what happens in this activity. The pledge is led to an elevated platform or something else to that effect. The pledge does not know where he/she is because they are blindfolded. Their heels are put to the edge of the platform. The pledge is now usually talked to by the pledge master/mom. They are instructed to keep their arms and legs straight and to be like a board. They are then asked if they trust the brothers/sisters. When they reply "yes", they are then pushed backwards off the platform. Now usually there are brothers/sisters below to catch the pledge so that they do not hit the floor.
We have heard of pledges being pushed off cliffs, houses, stair cases, and tables.
Usually they are all caught by the brothers/sisters. But we have heard of pledges being dropped and not caught at all. |
