Information Night
This is usually the first night of pledging.  The pledges will be told be at a certain place at a certain time.  It will usually be at the fraternity or sorority house, or in an absense of one, at a brothers or sisters house who lives off campus. This is not what happens with every organization.  Some of these things will be told to the pledge during the course of the pledge period, but generally the pledge will be told about:

Pledge fees and dues - This money is needed by the national organization to regist the pledge, supply him/her with national history books of the organization, pledge pin, and eventually a brother/sister pin. The money also goes to the insurance company to cover another member.  Also some of the money goes to the chapter so that they can buy supplies needed for the pledge period.  Or sometimes it's for beer and pizza.  Besides that, the pledge also will spend a lot of his/her personal money on other things during the pledge period.  Sometimes a large amount of money can be spent to pledge a greek organization.

Duration of pledging -  This can vary from school to school or organization to organization, but usually a pledge period will last about 6-8 weeks.  We have heard of 5 weeks because the pledges were outstanding, and we have heard of it going into the next semester because the pledges were f-ups.

Education and Pledge books - The pledge will be told he/she will have to learn all about the organization and the indivdual chapter.  They will have to make a pledge book which will keep all of this information.  Pledge books are talked about on another page.

Pledges will also be told that they will have to come up with a fundraiser and perform some type of community service.  The pledge will also be introduced to the pledge master/mom and committee, who usually consist of 3 members to help the pledge master/mom.
