Week 5
This week starts quite intens. I visited some slumps around Thika, visited also some schools in the slumps. This made me thinking about all these different lifestyles. Next to that, two of the kids killed happely two little chicks by smashing their heads happely with a stick. Danielle left the house for a few days, she is visiting Mombasa....and the week goes on. Peter and I have to enjoy eachother!!!Started yesterday with some nice cold beers.
Visiting slumps, streetboys, schools, lifestyles, the week just started
This is just
Streetboys, sniffing glue...
Living in the slumps of Thika
Peter playing some football in the slumps
...Strange to be here...
Peter and I wanted to visited the slumps of Thika. I wasn't sure about it if it would be a good idea, heard different stories about it. According to some locals here it would be very dangerous, people got killed there in daytime. With some security we decided to go visiting the slumps and a couple of schools there. We brought some bread, soap and biscuits with us. At the school we gave it to the children who needed it the most. Although we couldn't help everyone, the children shared the bread with others, very impressive.
To be in the slumps gave me different feelings. First of all it was so strange to be there. Children were jumping around us and wanted to touch us and holding our hands. There were around 30 children around us and walking with us, some of them probably never saw a 'Muzungu' (white man). People who are living in the slumps are maybe as much happy as we are in Europe. It looks like they life their lives as they we lived them 80 years ago. House made out of cowshit, clay and sticks. No electricity, no running water. They worry about primary lifethings, getting water, hopefully something to eat tonight......
Orphans who got some bread, soap and biscuits
It is so strange to experience two completely two different lifestyles. It's not a good thing to compare them. But I think the people who live here in the slumps live there lifes in a complete different way, where help is not really necessary. They can be very independent
...Deep thinking, very deep....
A way of seeing life in Europe
We have a lot of machines with which we save time. With this 'extra' time we can do different things. For these things we find some new machines. At the end we STRESS about what is next.....And people here are waiting for
STRESS??
No way!! Pole Pole, and we walk again 2 hours to get some water. HAKUNA MATATA
