The M24 is a a highly accurate bolt action sniper rifle. It is hard to use this weapon badly due to its high accuracy. An issue when using telescopic sights is that when you fire in an inaccurate mode the kick of the weapon will make you lose sight of your target. This can make it hard to assure a hit or re-aquire your target if you miss. Thus, do your utmost to use this weapon in prone or prone supported mode - the movement due to the weapon kick and your breathing is extremely low making it easy to shoot straight.
As this is a bolt action weapon the reload between rounds takes around 2 seconds and the reload when empty takes around ten seconds - because of this you should make every round count as you may only get one shot and people LOVE to take out snipers (especially other snipers) so get used to being a natural target.
Remember too that a sniper rifle is next to useless in close quarter combat. If you are playing as a sniper, try to pick up another weapon from a fallen comrade or enemy as quickly as possible otherwise you will be practically defenceless when the enemy get closer.
A shot to the head or body will take out an opponent so there's no need to go for headshots - just make sure you get a hit.
