Welcome to second grade. These are the things your child will be learning this coming week.
Phonograms: b, g, l, r, t, x, z, a, e, ir, ur, wor, sh, ai, ow, ou, oy, oi, au, ui, ch, ea, ar, ck, ei, igh, eigh, gn, wr, & gh.
Spelling:New Words, we will choose 25 of these; sun, help, hard, race, cover, fire, wire, tire, age, gold, read, red, fine, cannot, May, may, line, left, ship, train, saw, pay, large, near, down, why, bill, want, girl, & part.
Review words we will choose five of these; school, come, mother, child, house, other, about, was, spnt, & paper.
Bonus Words, we will choose one of these; Mayflower, & November.
Reading: We will work on
comprehension, the main idea, syllables, plots and settings, and tables and chart.
Math: We will work on Review fact families, story problems, dimes and pennies, and nickles, using digits to write dates, Venn Diagrams, place value, and fractions of 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8.
Introduce counting by 5, facts equaling 11, units of measurement with a ruler, naming fractions as a whole, and adding 10 to a 2 digit number, and timed addition tests.
Language: We will work composing complete sentences, review capitalization, introduce plurals for nouns, different types of nouns, and writing book reports.

Social Studies: Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.
Science: The five senses.

Comments: Cold and flu season is here. We have discussed the importance of washing our hands often. We also need wipes with bleach in them so we may sanitize our desks and common areas. Early Release every Friday. This is also our day to do a math test and a Spelling test.
