Franklin County Peace Show
Proposed Format

This is a proposed 30 minute TV show produced by volunteers whose mission is to  inform the public about efforts being taken to end the war in Iraq.  The program will focus on a variety of local and national issues related to the war and will showcase
local and regional efforts by people involved in the effort.

This program will be aimed primarily at Comcast cable TV subscribers in the Franklin County Vermont area and will take advantage of the free public access tv production facilities available and will also try to organize with other similar efforts being taken around the region.

Because the program will be utilizing the local Comcast Public Access TV facility, all programming will be commercial free.

Proposed format and content.

Our goal will be to complete two programs per month and to broadcast these shows on a weekly basis in different time slots.

The program will be approximately 30 minutes in length or less.

The program will take a "news" type format and will consist of a variety of announcements, interviews, on location news video footage, opinion, schedule of events, creative arts, humor, and commentary about the subject of achieving peace in Iraq and how failure to do this will effect the lives of people in Franklin County and elsewhere.

Here is a suggestion on how the presentation might be organized.

Opening-opening musical theme, logo presentation. video montage of previously shot clips. This would repeat each show so as to establish the show as an entity in the viewers mind.

INTRO lead -Anchor news person would announce the news lineup for the show by only announcing the headlines to be covered, priming the audience for what was to follow.  For example, announcer would briefly mention the top three headlines, mention the up coming interview, mention the feature, mention the topic of the commentary, then lead into the schedule of events.

schedule of events- would announce rallies, demonstrations, speeches, election dates, film screenings,  and other events that support peace. this would be presented as a voice over while the screen showed the information in text superimposed over still photos of related content.

News Content presentation

interview-  Each show would contain an interview with someone involved in the peace movement.

feature - The feature section would contain material submitted by other producers
who are willing to show their work on the program.  This could range from video coverage of a demonstration to video of a speech,

Commentary- we invite writers and speakers to say what they like about the issues.

Discussion- we invite opposing views to defend their point of view and discuss
the issues with others.

sign off- announcer/anchor person thanks viewers for watching, reminds viewers when the next show will play, tells viewers how to contribute material to the show.
reminds viewers where to go on the web for more information,

Conclusion- musical theme would play and photo montage would repeat signifying end of show and fade out.  Credits and contact info would display as theme music plays and fades out. Tv station disclaimer would be final thing seen.

Job Tasks

This program will be entirely edited rather than live.
In order to maintain the level of energy that would go into a production like this, we would need to solicit the help of at least several people who are willing to volunteer their time to make this happen. Here is a list of the various job tasks that might need to be performed . These are not necessarily performed by separate people. duties may overlap with more than one job task being performed by a single person.

Anchor person/ on Camera announcer.- provides primary on screen presence.

Camera Person.-  records all video material, travels to locations to shoot

Researcher-researches current topics and provides sources for news and info.

Writer/editor-creates news scripting, writes announcements, commentary. drafts written communications to potential contacts and content contributers.

Video editor- edits video material into final show form for broadcast.

Production Coordinator. coordinates scheduling, contacts contributors. secures locations, arranges transportation necessary to make production happen.

Clerical person- records and keeps available on file contact lists, information sources, written material, expenses, and any other records related to production.

Contact person.- Primary contact person that the public may contact with questions.

Publicist. - arranges for and seeks out additional venues for presentation and distribution.

Fund raiser. - Seeks sourcing for funding production incurred expenses.

production sequence

Production would follow a set flexible sequence in order to proceed in a timely manner and achieve the goal of having a finished piece at the end of two weeks.
Here is a suggested sequence that might occur.

1.writers draft proposed content for show after discussion with other members.
2. researchers gather info about content proposed by writers.
3, writers prepare preliminary script for show.
4. production coordinator makes contacts based on script and schedules critical locations, interviews, events, etc.
5.Script is reviewed by on camera people.
6. camera/sound person and on camera people shoot and record scripted content.
7. Researchers and production Coordinators gather content produced elsewhere.
8. Raw material gathered and shot is reviewed and discussed.
9. Final edit is performed
10. Final work is submitted for broadcast and distribution.
