| Snatch |
| "Snatch" is located at approximately mile 27 of the Richardson Highway. If you are heading from Valdez drive past Worthington Glacier. Directly across from the Worthington Air Strip is a parking area on your right. Park Here if it is plowed. If it is not plowed out continue down the road until you reach a slight hill will a rock cut and a pullout. There are several variations to approaching "Snatch" one of the best is to head up "Nick's Happy Valley" until a pass is located on the climbers right. Head up this pass and over the top into "Snatch". This is also the start of the approach for the north ridge of the "Berlin Wall". Also it is possible to skin up the gut of "Snatch" with the best skin track staying to climbers right. Once the you reach the rollover near the top of the valley you are on a glacier. Most parties head down from this point. There are three major options. Skier's Right, The Clit, and Skiers Left. "Skiers Left" is lowest angle route (30's) and offers good turns on consistant angles all the way down "The Clit" is the small summit in the center of "Snatch" It offers the steepest line (40's), although short, shot back down to the Skiers Right line. "Skier's Right" has a steep top (40's) and can offer excellent turns. In windy conditions the powder seems to hold here longer. Once access is made to the upper reaches it is easy to yoyo and ski all three lines. Just stop your descent prior to the bottle neck, then head back to your up track. |
