Michael White '82 Portrays
Tyson in HBO Movie

By Maria Silva

Central graduate Michael White will play Mike Tyson in the HBO production about the former heavyweight champion. White, who graduated in 1982, recently returned to Central to address students involved in the Peer Leadership program.

Like Tyson, White experienced athletic success at a young age, becoming a Black Belt and a national karate champion at sixteen. In a recent interview with an entertainment magazine he compared discussed the difficulties of success at a young age.

While at Central, he ran Track and got his first taste of the film world. His first film was called Self Defense for Women, directed and produced by Central Latin teacher Mr. James MacMath for a college graduate course.

His first Hollywood film roles were in martial arts films. He was an extra in some Chuck Norris movies.

He lives in North Hollywood, but his family still remains in Bridgeport. MacMath has moved on from film producing, but now directs the flourishing Central Chess Club.
