Jack Nilan: Rotary Teacher of the Year

By Stacy Peters

"Being a teacher for thirteen years it was a honor to be nominated for this award and a pleasure to receive it," said Mr. Jack Nilan. Central's Advanced Placement Computer Science teacher has received the Rotary Club teacher of the year award. The Rotary Club is a group of business people in Bridgeporttrying to promote the city in a positive way. Mr. Nilan was nominated for this award by Mr. Karcich and the administrators of Central High School.

"Mr. Nilan is a chief source of curriculum development for several computer science courses offered at Central. He was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of the Advanced Placement program at Central. He also organized the First Annual Connecticut State Computer Science Contest," said Mr. Karcich.

In addition to being an excellent classroom teacher Mr. Nilan is also a wonderful friend who is never too busy to answer a question or give good advice. Mr. Nilan was up against several teachers of the Bridgeport public school system and he was the only one to bring home the plaque. We should all congratulate Mr. Nilan for this wonderful achievement.
