Dorbat Breaks Central Shot Put Record

By Paul Raymond

Senior Anthony Dorbat broke Central High School's shot put record with a throw of 46 feet.

The old record of 45 feet 9 inches was set in 1981 by Michael White, who later became an actor and played Mike Tyson in an HBO film.   After coming close to eclipsing White's mark last season, Dorbat promised to break the record and backed up his words with a record setting heave at the first meet of the season.

"It felt good to break the record. That has been my personal goal since my freshman year," said DorbatDorbat won the shot put in every meet going into the FCIAC Western Division Championship, where he placed third, his worst finish this year.

"Not finishing first in that meet made me work harder," said Dorbat.  The hard work paid off in the FCIAC Championship, where he placed second and won the silver medal. He was also named to the All-FCIAC team.

"I have two weeks before states, so I'll practice my form and try my hardest at State," he said.
