Studying the Bible is very important. It can also be a lot of fun. The Bible is a big, thick book, it's true.
But that's because it's packed full of adventure stories, mysteries, songs and great ideas. You won't be bored studying the Bible if you use some of these fun ways. |
|
Study in a group - It's more fun to study with someone than by yourself. Call one of your friends to come over to your house for a Bible study. Another great group to study with is you Sunday School class. You learn from the Bible, and you learn from each other. It's okay to laugh and enjoy God's word. God wants his children to be happy and to love his word. |
|
Sing Bible songs - Many songs in our church songbooks have words that come from the Bible. The book of Psalms is a whole book of songs! (As a matter of fact, "psalms" sounds like "songs"!) Try to find a song in your songbook with words that match one of the psalms in the Bible ( for example, Psalm 23). You and your friends might want to sing the psalm/song together. Try to memorize Bible words by singing them. It's fun, and you also learn a lot. |
| Solve Bible puzzles - Ask you mom or dad to help you find a book of Bible puzzles. Some books have crossword puzzles with Bible words and clues. Some have riddles and questions to make you think and search for answers. Some are word search puzzles or "Who am I?" games to help you study. |
| Play Bible Games - Ask you Sunday school teacher or look in the church library for some Bible study games you can play with your friends. Invite some of your friends over to play the games with you. Perhaps you can find "Bible Baseball" or "Bible Pictionary." There are even some great Bible computer games you can enjoy with a friend or someone in your family. |
| Make Bible Snacks - Ask your mom to help you find some receipes for foods talked about in the Bible. Then invite some of your friends over to help you make them. When it's ready, share them with all your friends. One interesting meal for you to try to make is the Passover meal that the Jewish people have each year. Try to do everything just as they would have done it. First you'll have to study your Bible. Then you can have fun doing what they did. but you might not want to follow John the baptist's diet (Matthew 3:4; Mark 1:1)! |
| Act Out Bible Stories - Ask your mom or maybe even your teacher to help you and your friends put on a Bible play. Perhaps your mom would play director. Get your friends to choose a story from the Bible to act out. Write out the story like a play, showing which person speaks and when. Make a copy for all the players in the play and ask them to learn their lines. Next, have each person make a Bible costume (bathrobes and towels are great!). Have two or three rehearsals to put the play together. Finally, invite children and adults from your neighborhood and school to come to the play on a non-school day. You can also teach the story to those who come. The story of Peter's escape from prison (Acts 12:6-19) is a good one to begin with. |
| Give a Bible Challenge - Challenge some of your friends to a Bible memory verse contest. Ask your parents or your teacher to be the judge and buy a prize for the winner of the contest(or make one yourself). Then ask your judge to select something in the Bible for you to memorize. Get all your friends together, show the prize, and have your judge announce the memory challenge work. Then have fun trying to be the first one to memorize part of the bible. You'll learn something great, too. |
