Alexander Franco: La Metamorfosis del Arte

Alexander Franco Espana nace el 19 de Mayo de 1973 en El Valle del Cauca, al Sur Oeste de Colombia, último de 7 hijos. Su padre, Federman Franco, un comerciante amante de la lectura, junto con su madre, Ligia Espana, una mujer dedicada al hogar, le inculcan desde muy temprana edad lo importante que es cultivar el espíritu, el amor y el arte. Es su abuelo, Don Luis Espana, ingeniero de profesión y dedicado a la ebanistería, quien descubre su don artístico cuando apenas tiene la edad de 6 años, al observar su destreza con la pintura y la facilidad para dibujar.

En el colegio, siempre se caracterizó por su interés hacia el dibujo, sobresaliendo notoriamente en sus clases de arte, determinando desde muy temprana edad su interés por aprender todo lo relacionado con este don. A los doce años, se traslada al departamento de Caldas donde vive por cuatro años; donde practica deportes, escucha música clasica y estudia la cultura griega, al igual que el dibujo y la escultura. Continua sus estudios y tiene la oportunidad de conocer al Maestro Hernandez, pintor y escultor colombiano, del cual capta su forma de pintar con la acuarela, la cual causa una gran impresión en el joven artista, por la gran admiración que siempre sentía hacia el maestro. Sus trabajos con la acuarela lo llevan a entender la suavidad y la fluidez del medio, el cual combina con otras técnicas.

A causa de un accidente motociclístico, en 1989 se ve postrado en una cama por seis meses, tiempo que dedica a estudiar a maestros del renacimiento como Michelangelo y Leonardo Davinchi. Dedica este tiempo a la lectura y comprensión de la fisionomía utilizada por estos artistas, a los cuales reconoce como héroes del arte, por su genialidad y realismo en su trazado. En 1991, ya recuperado completamente, viaja a Los Estados Unidos radicándose en la ciudad de Nueva York donde vista museos y galerias. Estudia sin número de artistas; estudia en King College dibujo y psicología

Continúa sus estudios en la escuela William Esper en 1992 donde estudia el Maisner una técnica que le ayuda a comprender la complejidad del ser y a mirar mas allá de lo trazado. Fascinado por la vida nocturna y la música moderna; frecuenta discotecas y bares donde capta la necesidad del cambio de expresión para escapar de lo cotidiano.

En 1994, se traslada a la ciudad de México donde estudia a algunos de los pintores más sobresalientes de este país, inclinándose a descubrir el mundo de Diego Rivera, del cual absorbe su pasión y amor por su pueblo y la expresividad de sus figuras humanas.

Continúa sus estudios en Bellas Artes, incluyendo el desarrollo visual cuando en 1995, regresa a Colombia, radicándose en la ciudad de Manizales. Realiza exposiciones en varias ciudades del país con su colección de temas religiosos, la cual causa gran impacto en los observadores.

En 1999, se ve obligado a dejar Colombia a causa de la guerra civil no declarada en su país, viajando a la ciudad de Miami, donde estudia en The New World school of Art y aprende nuevas técnicas de arte moderno conceptual y diseño entre otras.

Su interés por explorar nuevas culturas y formas de vida lo llevan a viajar a varias partes del mundo para así seguir cultivando más su espíritu y su amor por el arte. Esto lo lleva a descubrir nuevas formas de expresión abstracta, lo cual plasma con acrílico en sus canvas, logrando recopilar la esencia del ser con un delineado rítmico y sin final, logrando abrir una puerta a otra dimensión para dejar así a la imaginación de su expectador una entrada a otro mundo de color y forma, Escapando de lo que nuestros sentidos han vivido por toda la vida y abriéndonos una ventana a un mundo Nuevo, logrando con esto liberarnos de nuestros pensamientos mundanos.

En 2001 decide convertirse en ciudadano estadounidense para con ello honrar al país que le brinda seguridad y paz.
Mudándose un año después a Las Vegas para seguir adquiriendo conocimiento. Aún continúa sus estudios, porque cómo él dice "somos como esponjas que absorbemos lo que se nos presenta y solamente nosotros podemos decidir lo que nos conviene para nuestro porvenir."

En 2003 tiene la oportunidad de realizar una exposición colectiva al lado del Maestro Botero, en el Museo de Arte de la cuidad de Las Vegas

Alexander Franco Espana was born May 19, 1973 in Valle del Cauca, in the South West of Colombia, He is the youngest of seven children. His father, Federman Franco, a trader, had a great love of reading, and his mother, Ligia Espana, was dedicated to her home. From a very early age, Federman cultivated the spirit, love and appreciation of the arts in his family. His grandfather, Luis Espana was an engineer by profession and dedicated to woodwork. At the age of 6, Alex’s grandfather observed his gift for painting and drawing, and supported his development through out his life.

In school, Alex was always interested in the many aspects of drawing and art. From an early age, Alex was determined and had a great desire to learn all that was related to this gift. At the age of twelve, he moves to the department of Caldas. He lives there for four years; where he practices sports, listens to classical music and studies Greek culture, along with drawing and the sculpture. He continues his studies and has the opportunity to meet the Colombian painter and sculptor Hernandez, from whom he learns to paint with watercolors, causing a great impression in the young artist due to the great admiration that he has for this teacher. His work with watercolor allows him to fully understand the softness and fluidity of this medium, which he then combines with other techniques.

Due to a motorcycle accident in 1989, he is confined to bed for six months, time that he dedicates to studying teachers of the Renaissance such as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, reading and understanding the physiognomy used by these artists, whom he recognizes as the heroes of art, by the genius and realism of their layout.

In 1991, already recovered completely, he travels to the United States, residing in the city of New York, where he visits museums and galleries. He studies an endless number of artists; studying drawing and modern psychology in King College .

In 1992, he is accepted in William Esper School, where technical studies in Maisner aid him in understanding the complexity of being and to see beyond mere layout. Fascinated by nocturnal life and modern music, he frequents discotheques and bars where he discovers the need to change means of expression in order to escape from the commonplace. In 1994 he moves to Mexico City where he studies some of the excellent painters of this country, leaning towards the world of Diego Rivera, from which he absorbs a passion and love for his town, as well as his expression in the human figure.

In 1995, he returns to Colombia, living in the city of Manizales, where he continues his studies in Fine Arts, including visual development. He exhibits collections of religious subjects which have a great impact on the observers in several Colombian cities.

Due to the rampant civil war in his country, in 1999 he is forced to leave Colombia, traveling to the City of Miami, where he studies in The New World School of Art and learns new techniques of conceptual modern art and design, among others. His interest in exploring new cultures and forms of life, cause him to travel to several parts of the world in order to continue cultivating his spirit and love for art. This leads him to discover new forms of abstract expression, which he then shapes with acrylic in his canvasses, managing to compile the essence of the being with endless rhythmic delineation, opening a door to another dimension while leaving to the imagination of the spectator an entrance to another world of color and forms, Escaping from what our senses have lived throughout life, opening a wind to a new world, freeing us from our mundane, everyday thoughts.

In 2001 he decides to become a United States Citizen, in an attempt to bring honor to the country which has provided him with peace and safety.
The following year he travels to Las Vegas to continue acquiring knowledge, to continue his education, and because, as he says "We are like sponges that absorb everything that comes to us, and only we are capable of deciding what is best for our future."

In 2003, he has the opportunity of realizing a collective exposition, beside the work of the great Botero, at the Las Vegas Museum of Art.
