home
Learning about sensory integration and Sensory Processing Disorder changed our life.  It was one of those defining moments.  Once I understood that there was a logical reason that Gabe behaved the way he did then I could focus on helping him fell more comfortable.  Before understanding his individual Sensory Defensiveness, I had tried every disipline plan I could find and NOTHING WORKED!!!           Sound Familiare?

Take some time to understand this and I bet you will have a defining moment with the Autistic person in your life.  Sensory Processing /defensiveness is complicated, and every person is different, but it is worth investigation

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a complex disorder of the brain. People with SPD misinterpret everyday sensory information, such as touch, sound, and movement. This can lead to behavioral problems, difficulties with coordination, and many other issues.  I believe that kids on the spectrum act so bizarre because their environment overwhelms them.

Parents, there are resources that can help you and your family learn more about SPD and find effective treatment. Browse through the sections of the this page.  Also try The Sensory Processing Disorder Network , which is linked below,  be sure to check out the  SPD Network Links for Parents page.
