| HOBBIES & INTERESTS |
| I love to be social, and for those of you at home, this may be a scock to you since I'm not very social at home. But put me in an environment where there is possibility for interaction and people who have similar interests as me and I flurish. I guess some may consider me the talkative and outgoing on, who is always laughing or making other people laugh. I can be quite the clown. And all must agree that there is NO ONE like me! (and I take pride in that!) So I guess my favorite hobbie is hanging out with my friends and being social. My friends get me though the rough days and make the good days even better. Who else but your friends will brighten ytour morning with a friendly "Good Morning Sunshine," or give you a hug when you are down and out and far from home? Who else would go out for a drink with you after a bad day or play a game of scrabble? I miss my friend soooooo much, especially those from college. Most of them lives in Pennsylvania, so I won't get to see them much anymore and it sadens me much. But they all reassure me that I've live and they will be there for me. I also love music. Pretty much any kind of music....and after four years at Lyco I can say that I actually listen to Country music too...and won't Sandy be happy to hear that I have programmed one country station on my car radio...who would have thought! (not me for sure.) But I really into alternative, rock, pop, and classical. You'll always find something from Lilith Fair on my playlist, as well as some hiphop or techno mix. And yes, I even listen to Pditti or Puffy..whatever his name is this week. I might not agree with all his songs, but they are fun to listen to when in a bad mood. Music has such a great way of expressing emotion..I think that is why I like it so much. I also love to sing, but since dropping out of choir after high school my voice isn't as well tuned anymore. But I hope to start practiving again and get it into tiptop shape. I also like to journal a lot, though it hasn't happened much lately. I find that if I don't write me feelings and emotions down or if I don't write about the events in my life, that some day I may forget about them. It is also fun to look through journals after several years to see how much has changed and how much I have grown as a person. My other big hobbie lately has been partying...don't get me wrong, I'm really a good girl..really...but ya have to live it up sometimes too. I don't party at home because, well there is no one to party with here. But at school it is a fun thing to do...as long as the people you are partying with aren't losers. And always watch out for your roomie when you tell her to be social! :-P Parties at school always prove to be an interesting time..and there are tapes to prove it! My Academic interests include: Psychology- especially children and adolscent issues. I ahve done an internship at a agency that helps battered women and their children. I also enjoy research in the field of psychology. My research interests include depression, anxiety, trichotillomania, empathy, and color in memory. I have already down research on empathy, and the role in color in memory. the latter of the two I have presented at two conferences. I'm a bit of a psychology nut...but I really like the discipline and I find myself to be quite good at it. I'm very at home in the academic setting...who would have thought, but after years of tough work I have become an exceptional student. :-) Women's Studies - being a woman I find the issues that women face in this society and across the world to be of extreme interests and importance. Call me a feminist if you must, and I am one...but please don't have the wrong idea of what feminists are. Not all feminists are "radical feminists." In fact, most women are not "radical", every woman has her own definition of what a feminist is and they incorporate this into their lives. Personally I guess I'm a moderate feminist. It's a lot to get into here, but if you want to know more bring it up some time. However, I must say this...campuses across the nation need to incorporate woens issues into their everyday lives. More campuses need women centers and need to take the issues women have about health, abuse, and safety seriously. TV Interests: Even with all that I am involved in, I do make time to catch my favorite tv show. You can always find me watching Survivor, or some other reality tv show (Big Brother, the Mole etc.) Thursday nights have never been the same since. (Did I mention that I am going to miss my Survivor buddy-Aims. She is still sadened that Rodger lost :-( We all are...I have to admit he was a nice guy.) I also tune into Crossing Jordan, ER, Gilmore Gilrs, Friends, Providence and SNL. In March Stacy, Justyna, and I went into the city to see the View. The set looks a lot smaller in person and so do all the view women, but it was a lot of fun and I can not wait to go again! |
