"The Loke Lani"
Maui's official flower Loke Lani is better known as the pink cottage rose.
It's more difficult to imagine the cooling rains from a "cloud bridge" that once passed from Ulupalakua to Kaho`olawe, generated by the lush sandalwood and koa forests on the slopes of Haleakala, which nourished a once verdant Kaho`olawe.Rampant trade mostly denuded Maui of its sandalwood and koa in the late 1700's and early 1800's, helping to dissipate that cloud bridge.
A hybrid of the sport of surfing, bodyboarding -- sometimes called boogieboarding -- is much simpler to master than regular, stand-up surfing. The bodyboard is really nothing more than nice-looking piece of polystyrene and all you need to do is liedown on it and let the wave carry you shoreward. Of course, there are experts who take the sport to an extreme, but formost, bodyboarding remains an easy alternative to standup surfing.
