Francesc Anglès

Francesc Anglès was born in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 1938. He was licensed in Medicine and Surgery for the University of Barcelona in the year 1963. In 1970 he begins their artistic activity as sculptor working clay, stone and wood.

In 1972 he begins to work with bandages in plaster, modeling indistinctly of small format and of real size and always, like main reason, the human figure.

From a principle is compared to the american "pop" sculptor George Segal , with the one that afterwards he'll keep in personal touch through Joan Muga, director of the Joan Prats Gallery in Barcelona. The only point in common is the white of their sculptures; Segal works taking out molds of their models. Anglès moulds his sculptures. All the works of Segal are life size, in the production of Anglès are found all types of measured.

For Anglès, what is important is the human figure; sometimes, especially when he models groups, he can get an real atmosphere (" The Cobla ", " The Departure ", etc.), but always as complement not sought.

He also uses, real elements, to way of assembly. They can be furniture, musical instruments, glasses mounts.... It is in the sculpture, what is the "collage" to the painting.

At the moment, he works with all kind of materials, stone, wood and brass. He is known, however, for the white of their sculptures, and for the human topics.

The material of modeling are the bandages in plaster, not the sackcloth or sack cloth that Segal used.

Francesc Anglès has exposed, to the moment, his work in the following museums:

And also in private collections of Madrid, Barcelona, New York, Chicago, Paris, Geneva, Basel, Brussels and Antwerp.
