July 13, 1999 I have a confession to make. I know it's probably a bit early in my journaling to confess my foibles to y'all, but I feel that I must. I have a serious addiction. It's...Room By Room on HGTV. Why do I like this show so much? Is it the handy decorating tips? The project worksheets they offer for every show? Nope. It's the hosts, Shari Hiller and Matt Fox. They are so endearingly corny in the way they present themselves in front of the camera that I find myself with a really big goofy smile. They also have such a fantastic chemistry that I even find myself wondering if they're a married couple. (They never really say.) There should be that much chemistry in big budget films! I really have gotten some good ideas from their show. In one episode Matt constructed a boy's headboard using baseball bats. As I watched him, I realized that I could make my own headboard, fairly easily and cheaply (but without the bats). The next challenge is for me to get off my lazy ass and do it! (Ah, procrastination is a wonderful thing!) Now if only Shari would change her hairstyle...
I happen to be a fan of HGTV in general, mainly the decorating shows. While a lot of the stuff they do is beyond my budget, I can always find little tips to make my little apartment a bit more livable (when I actually keep it clean, that is). It seems to have worked, since everyone who's ever entered my humble abode comments on how nice it is, how homey, warm and inviting. The fact that I live in a bungalow style apartment helps, but I'm also a fan of pine and fabric. I have curtains and fake ivy around the entrances that lead from the living room to the kitchen and hallway. And candles everywhere. Candles are a very big part of my decorating scheme. The key, though, is not to have the candles too close to the fabric. Else it would be a bit too warm, even for my tastes.
Have a great day and take care!
